Designed in 1917 as a grand hotel, the Touraine is Spruce Street’s marquee property, and the most architecturally striking residential apartment building in Philadelphia. We have gone to every length to preserve its original beauty, while incorporating modern comforts. Since 2011, the Spruce Street team has led a major capital reinvestment program that has reduced the building’s energy consumption, while redesigning the lobby and all common spaces to reflect our vintage-meets-modern aesthetic, including a state-of-the-art gym located in the former formal dining hall.
The Touraine contains many restored original details, such as millwork done by local artisans in the lobby and wide hallways, and places to sit and read books from our library.
Directly across the street is The Townhouse at The Touraine, an over 5,000 square foot historic townhouse. Residents of the The Townhouse can enjoy everything the Touraine has to offer while experiencing city living in a single family home.
In 2014, Spruce Street Real Estate Co. fully restored and renovated two mid 19th-century brownstones into 21 unique apartments, upholding the strictest historical preservation and environmental standards. The rehabilitation also included a beautifully landscaped courtyard area, and a green roof. The Annex is signature Spruce Street — vintage meets modern in simple, classic style.
The buildings feature restoration of original architectural details throughout apartments and common areas such as original pocket doors and wooden shutters. Exterior details include beautifully restored masonry and ironwork, in addition to new millwork by local craftsmen.
